Hi,

I have aquired two portable in car DVD players which will each use a 12v car power adaptor.

I am concerned about the power drainage from the car battery when using the systems. (Need two as my children will have interest in different DVD's).

Does anyone have any experience or advice when using in car DVD systems does it affect the battery life - will it put excess strain on the battery using two at the same time? Going on ski trip in new year so consider when using in the Winter with lights on/ wipers on /heater on etc??

The technical specifications indicate 'Power depletion <15W' and 'power consumption is 8 Watts per unit'.

Does anyone have any advice or put my mind at ease when using - Dont fancy being stuck in the middle of Europe with a flat battery!!

Many thanks

Surely the players. being portable have a low voltage DC input? Ie the mains is stepped down and turned into DC??

In which case just get a DC to DC invertor from Maplins or the like... I recently got one to run the Playstation 2 in the car - cost me

I really would not worry about the small power load they will place on the system, unless you let them sit in the car for 12 hours with the engine off, I think you'll have nothing to worry about - Remember, the battery is purely a reserve of power, for starting and under extremely high loads... The system will have been designed so that under normal use, ie how you describe it, so that the alternator supplys all the power AND keeps the battery charged.

With "power consumption 8W per unit", using both of them will use about the same power as having one main interior light switched on - hence, no problem unless you leave them running overnight with the engine switched off.
